A week since my last blog post and life is a bit of curate’s egg.
Lots of excitement over my interview with a large advertising agency for a job heading up their organic search department which required me to appraise the SEO of one of their client websites. It was fun to do (most of the time) and at nearly 50 pages long quite detailed (although there was much, much more I could have said).
The interview was last Tuesday morning and went well I think. I was one of three candidates: the other two being seen on Wednesday, with a decision made on Friday.
Well, Friday came and went with no word. Despite repeated calls to the recruitment agency, I’m facing the weekend with uncertainty. It’s true to say that the role is a huge opportunity and would be great fun.
Meanwhile, I’ve been meeting people with an eye to doing freelance work. Yesterday, I chatted with top guys at one big agency whose SEO people — based in Spain — have discontinued search work because the profit margin is too slight. And next week, I hope to discuss becoming a retained consultant for a London listings site.
At the back of my mind, I wonder whether this sort of retained-consultancy is the way forward for me, especially where companies want top-notch SEO expertise but can’t afford to hire a top-notch SEO consultant as part of their staff.
We’ll see, won’t we?
Oh, and I also got feedback from the interview from Hell. Apparently, despite putting in a performance which made me wish the ground would open up and swallow me, the interviewers thought I did pretty well. Go figure?
